I'm considering purchasing an 1873 Cattleman in 45 Colt.  They look great and the price is right.  Anyone here have any experience with Uberti?

Uberti quality started improving about 15 years ago, and it's quite good now, especially since Beretta bought them.

They are NOT the equal of a Colt or US Firearms, but they are very close copies, and quality is probably close to that of original Colt's of the 1800's.

Note that Uberti will "flex" quality of fit and exterior finish for an importer, depending on what price point the importer wants to sell at.

As example, the guns sold by EMF and Dixie are the VERY slightly lower quality, while Cimarron Arms, Navy Arms, and the guns imported by Uberti themselves are the top quality guns.
To see any difference, you'd have to closely compare one of each level side by side.

The only real defect I see in today's Uberti's is that the color case hardening on the frames is not as colorful as American guns.
While the Colt's have a brown base color with brilliant blues, the Uberti have a light gray base with more muted colors.
This seems to be mostly confined to the revolvers, because many of the Uberti rifles often have extraordinary colors.

They are very nice guns! Some would even say they are built better then the real deal Colts. Fit and finish really is nice and Beretta now owns them too.

I have this model and paid $250 for it 2 or so years ago.  I love it.  Great shooter, although it takes some getting used to the sights.  The sights on these type of revolvers were designed to hit a man sized target at 25 yards.  No worries, I enjoy shooting it and getting practice.  It is a very nice piece to reload for as well.

The only thing I haven't been able to find out is what type of pressures the barrel can withstand.  I reduce my loads to cowboy load pressures to be safe.

I've been using a pair of Ubertis for Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS) for years and love them both.  They're chambered in .45 Colt.

The only thing that's broken so far is sear/bolt springs (1 on one gun and 2 on the other) but this is a weak point on the originals as well.  Just carry some spares in your range bag.

I've always loaded them with a 250 grain plain lead bullet (RNFP), .454 diameter, and 8.0 grains of Unique.  As stated in another post, this is my woodsbumming revolver/cartridge combo.  I've never felt undergunned!

DV8: let me know where I can get these guns for $250!  I'll buy several!

I have been happy with this one which is in the "Old West Finish". I can't afford an authentic Colt but this is the next best thing.

I own a Uberti 1873 Cattlemen .45 Colt in a blued finish with a color cased harden frame. Fit and finish is great, the action is smooth, it's accurate, and lastly it's made by a company owned by Beretta.

I think they're great little guns. I love mine.

And, those who'd say a Uberti is built better than a real Colt are sadly mistaken. :)
