I recently put money down on a Rossi .357 2" 6 shot revolver Model R46102 (New Rossi with the Taurus security) It can be seen here-->www.rossiusa.com/products/product-details.cfm?model=R46102&category=REVOLVER I bought it brand new for $300. I know it could of probably been had cheaper but with shipping and transfer fees it would of equaled the same. My experience with owning revolvers are: Ruger GP100, Taurus UL 85, Ruger Vaquero .45LC, NAA .22 magnum and a Nagant. I picked up the Rossi as an inexpensive around the house gun. I plan on using .38spl +P loads made by Gold Dot for 2"barrels. I got the .357 version as it provides one extra round and if needed can shoot .357. I've heard mixed feelings and reviews of Rossi revolvers which is expected with any gun. Some comments from people that think the S&W,Colt and Ruger wheels guns are the only ones in existance.I'm looking for any comments, suggestions or reviews from someone you has owned a Rossi revolver, spent some time with one or at least shot one. Again this is an around the house gun as I have no way of getting CCW in my state even though I do have a PA permit, this will not be used in any other way. |
Its not about the cheapest gun, I own guns cheaper than the Rossi that I've fired thousands of rounds through without a problem that I would depend my life on. I use my GP100 for my nightstand gun. I own other guns that cost more but have decided to use a revolver for both nightstand and around the house. Except for the Taurus UL85, I still own all of the revolvers mentioned above. I sold the Taurus not because it was bad or "cheap", its because it was an ultralite and had to much muzzle flip,so basically I'm replacing the Taurus with a steel version that holds 1 more round and can shoot both .38s and .357s. Except for a lemon Taurus PT1911that I sold a week after owning it, I've had no problems with any of my firearms. My other Taurus is a PT22 that is suppose to be picky with ammo especially HPs. Mine shoots the cheap HP 550rd Remington brick from Walmart without a single problem. I tried to be as specific in my post as I can predict the type of questions that usually follows a question like "What do you think about X Brand of gun?" What I'm asking is for comments about people with experience with any Rossi revolver. Thanks for the concern though! |
Yea I'm going to use it with the Gold Dot short barrel .38+Ps. I'll probably shoot a few .357s through it but thats about it. |

Rossi revolvers are the only ones I've seen get out of time before being broken in. My friend's .22 got so out of time that the lead splash cut me in the face. I made him put it away. He said the .357 was worse. Too bad he wasted his money having Teddy Jacobson work on them. Teddy told him they wouldn't hold up before doing the work. |
| Now was that an old Rossi revolver? It seems all of the complaints on other sites are guns from the 70's 80's and early 90's. In the mid to late 90's I heard they improved their manufacturing methods and since merging with Taurus have gotten even better. Anyone with recent Rossi purchase experiences? |
one of my buddies had a high point. POS would not fire more than 1 round without jamming. seems like it was designed as a zip gun with a magazine in it for easier reloading.

Friend bought a used Rossi 38 with a longer bbl for $150ish last year. Just yesterday I watched him put rounds in a palm-area at 25ft and he had not shot anything for months. Now $350-375 at local shows gets a nice SW airweight with future ccw potential and better corrosion resistance, or a RIA 1911 But the only Rossi I have ever shot is a decent gun. |

Well I think I'll try out the Rossi. I had them check the timing before I even put money down on it and it was in spec and as a gun for around the house and nothing more its what I'm looking for. I started another thread about Charter Arms since I got a few negative responses here but it seems the new Charters are really bad and the older ones are the better built type which seems the opposite for the Rossi. With a diet of only 38spl and on occasion some +Ps, it should hold up well. |
