As a 1911 owner and CCW holder of an expensive hunk of steel, I would recommend the Smith .38 +P airweight (642?). You need the light weight for running, and the alloy should be resistant to sweat corrosion where it is not steel. I had a 640 (steel .357 5-shot J Frame) and although it was reasonably small, that gun was a real bitch to shoot. .38 felt like full house .357 in an L-frame, .38 +P felt like .45 fired from a 1911 compact, and .357 felt like someone hit you square in the hand with rebar. NFW would I suggest an alloy .357, so go with the .38 +P. They are also fairly popular and a good deal can be found with ease secondhand. |

How much do the Air-weights run for? Last time I checked I thought they were pretty expensive... Besides if I was going to spend $500 upwards on a small frame 5 shot stainless I think I would go with a SP101. I have shot them in the past and the recoil is very manageable in .357. I just saw that taurus for $245 and thought that this cheap gun might fit the niche... |
| The SP-101 is a great gun but heavy, do not buy it if weight is your primary concern. The Taurus 605 is also a good compact .357, but again, heavy. So you have to ask how important weight is for you. If you want to minimize get an airweight, if not, get a SP-101. It is a matter of personal preference and what you feel comfortable carrying. |
Hmm I could do that.... Just get two ankle holsters.... Yeah SP101's are heavy but that weight is a blessing when your shooting a full house .357. I can fire a SP101 with a small amount of recoil and no pain. Can't say that for air-weights or even the Taurus. |

A little off topic, but consider one of the Camel Back Fanny Pack carriers and stuff the revolver in there. Look at the Goblin product under MIlitary \ Hydration Packs ... camelback |
For the price I was thinking that the KelTec PF9 would fit the bill. I think by now they have the bugs worked out. If you want to spend twice as much there is Kahr P9 or PM9. They are higher quality in every way than the KT but you pay for that. |
