Does anyone here have a Charter Arms Bulldog?

I really like the idea of a .44 snubby.

Are there smaller grips available for the revolver?

I just recently sold one.  I had swapped the sucky OEM rubber grip with a Pachmayr Compac, and was satisfied with it.  It wasn't overly large, and much more comfortable.

If you want the smallest of the small, the best you'll probably be able to do is a set of wood grips from an older Charter Undercover, which are the same size.

I have one.  It's a nice, lightweight, compact package.  A little snappy on recoil with heavy loads, but with cowboy action type stuff it's completely manageable.

I really like the fact that it's stainless and all steel.  The aluminium and scandium revolvers sure sound nice, but I worry about how durable they'll be.  No worries like that with the Charter.

All that said I have mine up for sale.  It's listed in the EE.

I recently bought my second.

My first was a blue alloy-frame 3"old-style about 20 years ago. Ex wife disposed of it before divorce.

Second was found as consignment in local gun shop; all stainless 3"old-style with bobbed hammer. Plunked my money on the counter as soon as I saw it. It is my daily hot-weather carry piece, nightstand gun, etc. As you can tell I love the old ones. They style of the new ones doesn't warm me up as much. Otherwise they are quite a bit o gun in a damn small package!

Speer makes a 200gr Gold Dot HP especially for the .44 Spl. It optimizes expansion at sub-1000fps where the Spl operates. If you don't reload they are available on the defensive ammo shelf.

Funny you should say that about recoil. I recently posted in another thread about the cowboy action lead loads I tried that felt as stout as a .357 IN MY OPINION only. I guess it is a matter of subjective perception. The lead load IS a heavy one;240 gr. IIRC the old standard .44 Spl was a 246-grain lead load. But thta was for the SAA I think!
