is there a reason why you didnt get them in the 4-5/8"  bbl to begin with?

IMO.  sell/trade the ones you have for the barrel length you want.  youre going to loose $$$ most likely but not as much as you would shortening them.

wrong! if  ill lose a couple hundred selling then ill have to pay top doller for new.
reason i bought the 5.5 is because the colt cowboy was a great deal under 500 and the vaquero was a gift!so there

You can have the barrel shortened, but it's gonna COST.

First the barrel has to be cut off and re-crowned.
Then a new front sight has to be installed, and this calls for slotting the barrel, silver soldering the new sight in, THEN the barrel has to be re-blued since the red heat of silver brazing will destroy the blue.
To re-blue the barrel, it will have to be removed from the frame, which means it has to be re-fitted to the frame, which is also expensive.

Bottom line: Unless you opt for a "Billy Bob" quickie job that will look like crap, you're going to drop some money.

well it would have been nice to know that sooner.

so.  you got a good deal.  how good is it now?  now that you know you want a shorter barrel?

you bought it and its now yours. Have fun with your purchase.  dont worry about the shorter barrel.  Like i said before, If you really want one, then youre going to have to pay either way.

Can a new barrel be installed?  I looked at the option of shortening a Model 13 and finally found it easier to get another revolver, but that is another type of revolver.  I think it would be easier to have a smith change the barrel than finding one who can cut and crown it.
Good luck, post pics when you get er done.
