I have the 851SSUL. It's the same frame and grip but with a shrouded hammer and some aluminum alloy to make it lighter. I love it. I have a few hundred rounds through it, all of them +P some of those(50 rnds) the FBI load(158 gr. lead hollow point) and it functions great and I trust it to do so for some time to come. |

I just picked up that exact gun on friday and like it a lot. I've only got 80 rounds through it so far but I didn't do too poorly for a snubbie at 50' I was keeping most shots on target with it, had a couple of fliers that missed the paper but I wasn't expecting it to be a tack driver. The trigger on it isn't too bad in DA and feels really nice in SA. |
Yes. There is indeed some flip(nothing crazy though it's very controlable). It's to be expected. Don't try to get a compensated version. The pay off isn't worth the trade off, IMO. |
Ok, cool. Thanks for the info. |
It would be much smoother. My dad has a .38 with a four inch barrel and that thing feels like shooting a .22 when I go from my snubby in +P to shooting it with regular .38 special for plinking cans. If you go with a longer barrel I'd suggest getting a .357 then. A .357 with a 4 inch barrel and you are covered from .38 special to .38+P to .357 magnums. Nice shooting guns with .38 special for plinking and fun and you can get them with 7 round and even 8 round cylinders! |
I owned their blued brothern once upon a time. Trigger was gritty, not anywhere near a S&W smoothness. I shot it for a month or two & then sold it off. One thing about Taurus, they have EXCELLENT customer service for their products, maybe the best in business.................. My .o2 |

I have an 85CHSS. It's my backup pocket gun,and my wife's primary for purse carry. Like almost all Taurus small frame revolvers, the trigger is heavy, but a Wolff spring kit fixes that. Grittiness can be eliminated with a bit of work,or lots of dry firing. Accuracy on mine is about par for other snubs I've shot. |

I have the full steel blued Version of said Taurus and I love it! It was my first handgun and my trusted carry pistol. 6000 rds so far and nary a problem. Recoil with the +P is very managable, and actually quite fun to shoot! I will admit the trigger was a bit gritty at first, but after a few trips to the range she broke in nicely. Just a little word to the wise, the Taurus' seem to love +P semi wadcutters |

+2 I love my Taurus 605, it does everything the .38spl version does and then some. Recoil with .357 is not bad at all, IMO. It does have quite a bit of blast/flash though. I would get it, and then shoot .38's in it if the full house stuff bothers you. You'll at least still retain the capability to shoot .357 if you want to. |
