Is it possible to convert a 45 Colt,  Ruger Redhawk (if it's still offered in 45) to .454 Casull? I don't see 45 listed in the Ruger catalog.

as far as the redhawk i would say very unlikely.  that frame is not made to take the pressure of the .454 casull.  for the super redhawk, the .454 can chamber the .45colt round with no problem.  they still make the redhawk in .45colt but i don't think they ever made the srh solely in that caliber.  you might be able to send in a srh and have a .454 cylinder timed for it but you would have to call ruger about that.

Yes, it is quite common. It is generally a 5 shot conversion however some folks are simply installing a SRH cylinder in the RH. This second option is problematic as you need the cyl from a SRH and after you canabolize the SRH for the cyl, you are left with a SRH which you can't (easily)  get a cyl for as Ruger does not offer these. The 6 shot SRH has a problem with max pressure loads as sticking brass is common, I doubt it would be any better in the RH with max loads. I run my 5.5 RH at 1350 fps with a 335 cast, in a 7.5 RH this will easily go over 1400 fps, at a little under 1500 fps with the same bullet brass starts sticking in the 454 SRH. So my question is have you gained enough (less than 100 fps) for the trouble?

Exactly what I wanted to hear. I did ask Bowen Classic Arms this question and not only did I get a super fast reply he also set me straight on the good and bad points of doing this. Basicly I could do it, have the coolest (matter of opinion) looking, most expensive handgun on the range that could spit a 6 foot fireball, I would also have something that was ******* nasty to shoot. So I'll just be happy to stick with the .44 for now (ordered the Taurus in 454 as well)

The Bowen 5 shot conversion is a first class act, there are no problems with anything (except recoil) even at 60K chamber pressures and the quality of work is exceptional. Enjoy your RB, keep pressures under 50K and it will live a long and happy life.
