According to the S&W web site the labor is $60 and the barrel itself is $145 and some change.

Smith and Wesson Custom Gunsmithing

I would bet you can find BOTH of those cheaper, but that is the first price I ran across

Any good gunsmith that works on revolvers.  Smith & Wesson obviously can as well.

A rebarrel isn't cheap.  It'd be cheaper for you to sell the 6" and buy a 4".  ALOT cheaper, and probably alot faster and easier.

ed to add, cheaper than I thought.  That's lower than Ruger charges.  But you're still spending $200+ on the gun, and I still think it'd be cheaper to sell it and buy a 4".  You could sell the 6" for $200 less than what you buy the 4" and it would still be cheaper.

I looked at Cylinder and Slide, their price is also over $200 (though I imagine they do a great job).

Looks like the "trade the gun" advice is spot on.  I would think the only difficulty is finding another 29, so many of the .44s out there now are the new (relatively so) 629.
