So, Ruger currently offers it's Single Six revolver as a "kit gun" with two cylinders. One for .22 Long Rifle, and one for .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire (22 mag).
I've read that the bore of the Single Six is sized for the dimension of the .22 mag, which has a bullet diameter of .224". .22 Long Rifle has a bullet diameter of .223". Will this give sub par accuracy when using .22 Long Rifle in the Single Six? I have a line on a used Single Six, and have been wanting a .22 revolver for a while now, and am not willing to spend the mega bucks for a S&W Model 17 or 617. |

Nabbed it. http://imageshack.com/a/img923/1887/PJxcEv.jpg The thing is pristine. Did not have box or papers, but the cylinders both are serialized to the frame. When I got it home and wiped it down the patches had the color of that brown shipping lube. I doubt it's been fired since the test shots at the factory. Bore is shiny and bright. Paid $100 less that getting one online and paying the shipping and FFL transfer fees in my neck of the woods. Happy camper so far. Range day tomorrow... looks beautiful, be careful not to lose either of the cylinders, if there is one thing that detracts from the value the most with those it is loss of a cylinder. They are expensive to replace. I have the stainless version, and since I got it through the ISRA it has the NRA logo on the flat top just in front of the rear sight. I like to shoot mine, it is very well balanced and I have rather large hands but it feels comfortable to fire. |

Just back from the range.
No appreciable difference between the .22mag and .22LR in terms of accuracy. I saw a bigger difference in the different flavors of .22LR that I used, but it's not a huge difference, and it's not velocity dependent as I had surmised it would be. If I do my part it will shoot a fair bit better than minute of tin can.
This thing is a lot of fun, that's for sure. The slower pace that the single action forces on you because of it's loading time, and having to cock it every time is actually a very welcome change. Glad i picked it up. |

My dad bought me a single six around 1988 it had both a mag and rifle cylinders they will shoot as well as you do. what is a model 17 going for now? I have 6 in my safe. my sigline use to read "without a 22lr wheel gun life is joyless. " |

I never warmed up to these. I love single actions and I love .22 revolvers. For some reason the loading and unloading of these I find tedious. Doesn't bother me on a Colt SAA.
On these single sixes, do the stop notches on the cylinder line up with the loading gate? I had a first model vaquero in .44 magnum. While loading/unloading, if you turned the cylinder to the stop notch you you went too far and could not load. Instead you had to turn the cylinder just until the chamber lines up with the loading gate, but not too far until it clicked. It was an infuriating design. I haven't considered a Ruger SA since, but yours looks nice. |
