I have the 4 inch, a friend of mine has the 5 inch.  Both are great guns.  Can't beat the 8 rounds of .357, both cut for moon clips, and speed loaders are available now.  They are accurate, outstanding double action triggers.  The 5 inch pro model my friend has is equipped with a brass "gold" front sight, fancy wood grips with rubber as well.  I wouldn't say the 5 inch is more accurate, and the triggers are the same as well.  I prefer a 4 inch gun, my friend the 5.  It is one hell of a revolver either way.

I'm happy that I own one.

I use moon clips by George Martin - 0.020" for Winchester brass and 0.025" for almost everything else.
The moon clip loader/unloader I use is by BMT Equipped and works very, very well.

You don't have to use moon clips but...why wouldn't you?

I think they are a darn impressive piece, let me ask why the 627 over the trr8.  is it the scandium frame?or something else.

The trr8 & 627 I have shot both seemed HUGE it might be I am use to k &L frames but the 627 seems much larger than my 28 or 27. It felt like you were taking cover behind the cylinder and had to look around it,

If you can swing it the 627 seems like a hell of a gun I have not shot one enough to comment more than that.

No you do not have to use moon clips, I like the speed loaders better anyway, moon clips are faster, but I "think" could get bent and not work for carry, MHO.

I have both the 4" 627Pro and the 5" 627PC. I like both of them. Both are very accurate, but the Pro took a bit more work to get the really nice trigger action that Smith is famous for. Pick which ever you want. I think 5" is the perfect barrel length for an N frame Smith.

Agreed on the 5" length being perfect.
When my son was born I bought him a 627 Mod. of 1989, I gave it to him on his 21st birthday...really should have bought two.

Love the 4 inch. It has become my favorite for range use… by stretch.

The 327 TRR8, 27, 28 & 627 are all "N" size frame revolvers...

They're nice...

ETA, those are Ranch moons at 75 cents apiece with Winchester brass. I found the Ranch moons way too loose with Federal, Remington and Speer brass. Your mileage may vary.

It's a great revolver with one. There are a few pre lock guns out there. Most of the owners aren't selling though...

I don't own S&W 627 PC but I do own a S&W 629 V-Comp PC and although they aren't even the same caliber I can say that the Performance Center guns are awesome.  I love my Ruger GP100's, they are the tanks of the revolver world, and there is no other revolver I would choose to go into the end of the world with but...there's no other revolver I'd rather shoot for fun than my 629 V-Comp.  My PC V-Comp has a fantastic action and a trigger that feels amazing!  Incredibly accurate and just plain tons of fun to shoot even in .44 magnum.  I can imagine the 627 PC is as good a shooter, I would definitely buy it if you want it, I can almost guarantee you will love it!

Here's mine, even in .44 magnum it's really fun to shoot.  Guys think I'm nuts for shooting a big N frame .44 magnum but with the Hogue grip and the compensator the recoil is far more manageable than you would think.  It's a little milderer than my .50 Beowulf lol.

There are pre lock 8 shot S&W revolvers in 357?  You have my full attention.

Yeah, 627 Pro. You get a lot of the same features of the PC without the "individual fine tuning" and additional cost. And, I just prefer 4" revolvers over 5".

The 627-2 and 627-3 were made between 1998 and 2002 with no lock and 8 shot cylinders. Some had a removable compensator on them (the V-Comp). They were popular with ICORE shooters and not many others. I'm not sure of the production numbers. I am sure that not many come up for sale...

I've wanted a 627 PC for about a year now.  Can't find one (at least not for a couple hundred over MSRP on gunbroker).  If I ever see one at MSRP or lower I will pop immediately.

That seems to be the case. The 5in seems to sell for more, even though smith lists lists them the same $.

Im looking for the 5".  I havent seen one on GB for quite a while.  The snubs are on there all the time.  The 5" guns I've seen all got bid up to the $1500 neighborhood when I was looking.  If anyone wants to let one go, I'm interested.

You're going to have a tough time with 5" guns for a little bit. All the USPSA guys are buying them up due to the rule change. Just about everyone is going to be trying 8 shot minor next year.
