| Hey there guys. I'm not really quite sure if I'm in the right section for this kind of question, but here it goes! I own a newer Taurus model 85 in stainless steel. The finish is slightly brown in some places, and doesn't shine whatsoever. Is there any kind of way I could get a mirror(ish) finish on it? Thanks! |

I had an older Model 85. It was a good revolver. Never an issue.
I also have a newer 7 shot .357 Taurus with no issues. Great trigger. With Taurus, you roll the dice. Usually, if there is a problem, it shows up quickly in Taurus revolvers. I use Mothers mag polish to polish stainless. It doesn't scratch. Dave N |
| Strip the gun down to its major components and sand everything with progressively finer grades of wet/dry sandpaper and a light oil. Use a sanding block on the flat areas or your finish will end up rippled. Start with 600 grit paper, then go to 1000 grit, and finish with either 1200 or 1500 grit. Then polish it with a hard felt block and polishing compound until it's uniformly shiney all over. Then use Renaissance wax to finish it off. It should look like a mirror by this point. |

Just used some stainless steel polish from the supermarket (it worked great!) Sanded it with 600, then 800, then 1000, and finished by polishing it off and rubbing some oil on it. I can see my reflection! Thanks for all the great advice. Pics coming soon! Very nice. Toss up pics. I'd love to see them. I also have an 85. |

Make sure it isn't a matte nickel finish. If the hammer and trigger are color case hardend then it is nickel. You can polish it with a dremel felt pad and Flitz to get a mirror like shine. Like others have said bead blasting looks better, at least to me. This. It may be nickel. Flitz is great but I can't get consistent results on large areas with a dremel. YMMV. I'd go with flitz, an old soft tshirt, and time. Pop a movie in and polish away. It'll take a while but you'll eventually put a mirror finish on. ETA: Oops, I see you solved your own problem. Hit it with some flitz anyway. |
