Anyone have any experience with these?  Been kicking around the idea of picking one up in the next couple months but have a couple questions...How effective is the comp at reducing recoil?  How much louder is the gun with the comp and shorter barrel?  I'm currently shooting a 7.5" Ruger Super Redhawk but it kicks like a mule and I can't put too many rounds through it before my hand is red and throbbing.  Even with 44 specials, it's still an animal.  Can't find any videos on youtube either

Honestly, I don't think the 629's recoil that bad with standard loads. Maybe the 3"

I don't know what grips you have on the Ruger, but I typically don't like their stock grips.

Unless you just want a PC gun, an underlugged 629 Classic is a sweet shooting pistol for much less money. I promise you, they are very easy on the hands, just a little rise. Mine is 5" (the pistol )

Honestly, if 44 specials feel that rough on you in the Super Redhawk then you need to look to a much lower powered cartridge and forget any big bore handguns. I don't mean that to be mean or rude but the facts are that the very heavy Ruger handles recoil better than almost any other revolver made and ANY 44 special is a pussy cat in that gun. Best of luck in your search. Perhaps, if you're determined to shoot big bores, try a Dan Wesson in 445 Supermag that's ported.... The Alaskan. Any normal 44 magnums or specials feel like a 38 in that gun.

I have a 629 V-Comp.  It is AWESOME!!!!  Yes, the compensator helps.  I can't speak so much about the noise since I'm always wearing ear protection.  I can shoot full power loads with no problem.  Now I've never gone through more than a 50 round box at a time but I can't imagine the recoil being too much for most people.  Obviously you've probably already looked at prices and know that these are quite pricey but I can assure you that they are absolutely worth it.  If I could afford another I'd buy a second.

The gun is extremely accurate and the recoil with the compensator is no problem at all.  I had some friends shoot it and they were amazed by the lack of recoil and it's accuracy.  The trigger is fantastic but then these are Performance Center guns so you're getting something that's been tricked, tweaked and smoothed to perfection.  It's by far my favorite revolver and one that I will keep all my life.

Here's my baby...she's the choice if I ever wander into big scary animal areas.

I just put some Hogue Tamer grips on the Redhawk, haven't shot it yet as I'm having some issues with tendonitis in my left thumb (I'm a lefty).  I'm curious to see how much difference the grips make but it'll be a while.  Thanks for the info Brandi, that's exactly what I wanted to hear  Now I just have to decide if I want to keep the Redhawk or trade it in towards the V comp which would make the cost a bit more bearable.  I know they're pricey, somewhere around $1300-$1400, but I've always been a firm believer in you get what you pay for

Speaking as a V-Comp owner I can say you will absolutely tickled with the gun if you buy one.  Post up pics if you get it!
