I got one this weekend. 6" blued and I installed firesights and wow... I can't wait to shoot it. Just wanted to post since I'm excited. 
Going to load up some 158gr xtps over some 296 as soon as I finish up some 223 I'm working on. |

Terrible gun. Ship it to me immediately for safe disposal.
Seriously, it is a terrific firearm. Better than a dog, because it doesn't bark till you tell it to, nor eat until you feed it. I've had one for several years and IMO it's the last gun I'd part with. It's built like a tank, too. A few months ago I was shooting 24" ringers at 100 yards with it! |

It will improve your trigger pull to the likeness of a S&W 19 or 686. Don't go too light or you will get light primer strikes. Honestly, the trigger is not bad at all. In fact I like it because it easily stages in DA. |

ETA: I love my 4" GP, reliable and wonderful broken in trigger (Yes, I've shot Colts and Smiths...) It makes for the perfect no frills, working gun. I'm sure you'll admiration for it will become even higher once you shoot it. |
I have been kicking around buying one for years, seen one in a local classifieds last week and messaged the guy about it and he said it was for trade only told him I don't have anything for trade, but I have cash and that I wasn't looking to lowball him, just give me a price that's fair for both of us, he still insisted trade only.

The Gp-100 is a great revolver. I had a 6 inch blued version about 3 years ago that was a nice shooter, but i could never really get the trigger where i wanted it to be. It always seemed too heavy even with reduced power springs. That being said, I recently purchased a 4 inch stainless version for my wife and the trigger was surprisingly good right out of the box. Makes me wonder if Ruger might be making an effort to improve trigger pull on their revolvers.
My favorite load for these includes a 125gr XTP over copious amounts of H110 (win 296). Clocking in at an average of around 2100 FPS out of the 6 inch... they let you know you're shooting something .

That is rifle level velocities out of a pistol length barrel.

Current Hodgdon max is 22.0 grains for around 41000 CUP... this load in my gun showed absolutely no pressure signs and was good for a bit over 1950 FPS on average. I carefully worked my way up watching for pressure signs and eventually hit my particular gun's max a bit above that level of 22 grains when the primers started flattening out nicely and the extraction was just a little sticky.
I do not recommend going over Manufacturer's listed maximum for a particular powder, however, every gun is different. What might be high pressure in one firearm might be perfectly within normal range in another just due to normal variations in manufacturing i.e. barrel under-bore or over-bore, rifling quality etc. These can make quite a large difference in the amount of pressure the load develops in a particular gun. One example I can think of off hand is my old SRH with roll marks on the barrel vs. my new one that was laser etched. Loads that were hot in my old one show no signs of high pressure at all in my new one. All that being said, you are ultimately responsible for your own safety and if you reload, you must look at all the information in reloading manuals you can, and be able to interpret signs that your gun and the spent casings are giving you. 44mag-p- |

The whole reason behind the WC was Wiley discussing with someone (that I can't remember) what would make, in his mind, the perfect combat revolver (after all self defense at that point is combat). He designed it...Ruger/Talo built it. And after comparing the two, as similar as they are, I have to agree he may have done it. The standard 3" GP is an excellent gun in it's own right, Clapp just made it better. It's like owning an awesome corvette, it will do what you need it to do but then you send it to Call away or Hennessy and now that same corvette is much better and you wonder why they just didn't do that to begin with. Is it worth it? If you have the extra money then, yes, it's well worth it. Many people have said the trigger and action is better but I haven't shot them enough together to agree or disagree. What I can agree on is if you want a GP100....you should REALLY want the Wiley Clapp GP100.

Anyone have any luck finding a new front site for these though? Novak says they don't make it, only the rear  Don't do much good to have a fiber optic front and tritium rear. Would prefer a full set before buying anything

My GP100 looks to have the exact same dovetail cut as the WC pictured above.
If the WC has the spring loaded pin at the muzzle that holds the front sight in place, then I will bet that it uses any front sight that works the same way. I actually run a Dawson FO front sight and the factory rear adjustable on my GP100. Ooops, after looking more closely at the pics, it appears that the dovetail on the WC is narrower than the factory GP100. If some one is able to get a measurement of the WC dovetail, I will pull my front sight off an measure the factory one. |

Going to load up some 158gr xtps over some 296 as soon as I finish up some 223 I'm working on. Good choice, acnt go wrong with a GP100. I got one last year (4" barrel) and I enjoy shooting it very much. I changed the front the sight, pistol grip and bought a few items from Ruger for it.
