My friend just bought this form Buds.
http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/55743/Smith+%26+Wesson+5+Round+38+Special+%2BP78%22+BarrelFixed+Sight

The title says 38 Special +P but the specs just say .38 special.  The barrel also is stamped .38 special.  I looked on the S&W site and could not find the revolver and searching other sites some say +P and some just .38 special for the same revolver.  Could anyone give me a heads up if this is a +P revolver.  Thanks, Mike

I suspect you're ok with +P with a 360.  The less expensive Aluminum framed 642/442, 637, 638/448 are all good to go with +P.  I think all modern smith's are.  The only warning I've seen on some lightweight frames are to use bullets of a certain weight.

Nice gun.  Pics when you get it.

OK for +P, but it's my understanding that S&W does not recommend lead bullets, at least of the +P variety, in their scandium framed revolvers. IIRC, it's because the increased recoil in the lighter scandium revolvers may cause bullet setback if the projo is made of lead.

I thought the 360 is a .357 mag. Unless there's a difference between a Model 360 and a M&P360?? I have the latter.

it should be able to digest both 357 & 38spc +p

...there are currently four model 360 offerings:

M&P 360: Stainless-steel cylinder, XS Big Dot front sight with tritium insert, 1 7/8" barrel
M&P 360: As above but with 3" barrel
360PD: Titanium cylinder, Hi-Viz front sight
360: Stainless-steel cylinder, standard front sight; TALO Distributors exclusive

From S&W's webpage

Although it may be like the early Model 640 which was a .38 and later versions were .357...

640 no dash was the original in .38 Special.
640-1 was the J-magnum frame chambered in .357
640-2 was the -1 frame but chambered in .38 +P
640-3 added the lock to the .357
640-4 added the lock to the .38
