I've been offered a trade and I wanted to get someone else's opinion on it.
What I'd get is a very nice S&W Model 66-1(pinned barrel/recessed cylinder) .357mag with a 2 1/2" barrel. Comes with box, but not the original grips. I will also be getting $250 cash and some assorted miscellaneous ammo(80rds Tula .223, 50rds .38spl, 25rds .357mag, & 40rds 12ga). The ammo is all blaster type, nothing special. The other party would be getting my 1977 Colt Trooper MkIII with a 4" blued barrel in very nice shape with original grips, etc, no box & my 1960 S&W Mdl 17 no dash(pinnned barrel/recessed cylinder) with correct grips, a set of target grips, and trigger shoe. I have a bit over $1,000 in the two pistols. Currently, I don't shoot the Mdl 17 much, but I know they're a hot ticket item right now. I believe I could probably get ~$600 for it if I decided to sell it by itself. The Colt is a great pistol, but not practical for concealed carry. I would put the value between $400-$500. Both my pistols are in comparable shape to the one I'd be getting. |

While I'm not a big trader by any means, I think you're underpricing your end of the deal (or over valuing the M-66) by a couple hundred bucks. For starters, if your target grips for the K-22 are S&W's and not an off brand, they should be worth $60+, and I can't see that miscellaneous ammo being worth more than $30-$50 at best.
(And although you didn't ask, I'm not selling any more of my K-22s either. So as much as I'd like to have the Model 66, I'd pass on this particular deal. |

Although it's a fine pistol, I don't shoot the Mdl 17 much. Would I be better off selling it individually? dude you will rgrt selling the 17 a snubby 66 is nothing special they are loud and meant to carry so unless you need a carry piece keep the 17 4& 6 in 66's are great but not as nice as a 67 or 686...the 17 is one of the best pistols ever made, smaller than 2 inches at 25 yards is easy with these guns. |

You're getting the short end of the deal. Colt Troopers, even the later ones, are creeping up in value. The short barrel 66 is nice enough but nothing special. I had one. With magnum ammo is was impressive to shoot but not much fun. The adjustable sights can snag on clothes. Early Smith 17s are almost a cult item and hard as hell to find. The ammo adds nothing to the deal.
I understand getting rid of stuff you don't shoot, I do it all the time. Both the Colt and Smith would be an easy item to move on EE or gun broker. I'd value the 66 at maybe 500, to me, tho people are paying more for them. If you're wanting a carry piece there are things I would recommend before the 66. |
| Thanks for the help guys. I'll advise the other party I've decided to keep the pistols I have for the time begin. I do need another carry piece to accompany my J-frame, but I would probably be better off taking the funds raised from selling either the Trooper or Mdl 17 and getting something I really want. |
