hi all
i have tried this post in the reloading section and not much response from there so i thought i would give this one a try. i am planning on reloading for the 460, but i am wondering if there is a set of dies that will work for 45 long colt and 454 casull? my thoughts were to use the 45 lc dies and raise them when using the other cals. not sure if that will work. any advice would be great. thanks |
| Yes, the Lee 45 Colt carbide set will work, not sure about the other brands though. The Lee sizer die has less bevel on the bottom of the die body so it will size further down the case than some of the other brands that I've owned. This makes a difference because some of these high pressure magnum revolvers have chambers that are very tight in tolerances. BTW, I am speaking from experience because I load 460 for my neighbor. |

Not sure if there is one that'll work for all three but the lee carbide dies are fairly inexpensive. Even the ones that do 2 sizes say 38 specials and 357s I buy 2 sets. I use a turret press for pistols and keep the dies in the turrets. I find it a lot easier to just leave the settings as is then reset them up and down and at $30.00 a set, it's reasonable enough.
If it were me, I'd go: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/681170/lee-carbide-3-die-set-460-s-and-w-magnum http://www.midwayusa.com/product/722889/lee-carbide-3-die-set-454-casull http://www.midwayusa.com/product/706882/lee-deluxe-carbide-4-die-set-45-colt-long-colt The last one has the factory crimp die with it and I think one will work for all three. I did it this way to try and save you a bit of money but I would get one for each. I have a dealers discount with Midway so this would come in at close to $100.00. They are all carbide meaning you don't need to lube but I do anyway with a spray lube as a just in case. |
