Hi all, I have my grandfather's no dash 686(abs prefix). I purchased it from my uncle a while back after he no longer wanted it. It currently has an older(though in good shape) Bushnell Magnum Phantom 2.5x scope and mount on it. It shoots well with it, but I just don't like shooting a scoped revolver, so it just sits in my safe. I didn't receive the sight with the gun, so I'd like to replace the scope with a standard open sight, so that I can use it like it deserves to be, and not just keep it as a safe queen. I was looking on Midway, and found a few standard factory replacements, but the feedback on this sight indicates that the older 686's have the mounting screw in a different position than the newer ones. I just purchased and tried out this sight - http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=15010/sku=940-000-856/Product/Sight-Assembly-Rear-146-N-S-W-O-4-6-Barrel and of course, it did not fit, the screw hole in the assembly was too far to the rear. So, I'm at a loss as to which one I need. Can anyone direct me to which specific sight I need, and/or where I could acquire one? I have emailed S&W and am just waiting to hear back from them. Also, I see sight blade heights between .106" and .16". If possible I would like to return the gun to as close to original condition as possible, so do you know what height sight blade the gun would have left the factory with? Lastly, I have no desire to keep the scope, so will be looking to sell or trade it. I know it isn't the best scope, but would hopefully be able to get it to someone who would like to have a "period correct" gun, or collector, or at least someone who would get some use out of it. Any idea of the value of the scope and mount? Of course, here is the obligatory pic! Thanks in advance for your help, I appreciate it!
