what does the hive recommend, the Safariland reloader or the "twister" HKS (sp)??
which is easier to manipulate in a speed reload?
can I get a speedloader pouch for either one?

thanks

(I'm new to revolvers, familiar with auto's)

Yes, you can get pouches for both. I have no experience with Safariland so I can't comment on which is easier or faster, but the HKS
is very serviceable and quick. I used Dade in competition but they are no longer available, except for the rare occasion on ebay. Most

people would not recommend Dade for anything other than competition due to their 'emptying' rounds if dropped.

I like the speed of the Comp II, but I have found the HKS to be a bit more secure.

Give the S.L. Variant a look. They are available through BobMacs.com

Jet Loader, availible from Brownells, and probably others.  As quick as a Safariliand and as secure as the HKS.  I've used all three and much prefer the Jets.  They are however, a bit larger.

I've had a lot of success with the old school HKS speedloaders.  Back in the early 1980s when I was a rookie police officer, that was what we were given, what we trained with and carried.  I've tried the Safariland comp II, and never learned to like them.  They are about as fast.  I've never tried the Jet loaders.

Whatever type you choose, practice with them until they are like second nature.

I have HKS speed loaders because I have multiple revolvers,  Colt Python, Diamondback 38spl & 22LR; S&W 686, 640, 342, 296, & 696 44spl. HKS makes a speed load for each of them, you want them to operate the same, at least for me. I without having to think the difference in operation between a HKS and a Safariland.

I think that the choice of speedloader type just comes down to personal preference. I personally do not really have one general preference but prefer the Safariland CompIII for competion work. I have used HKS speedloaders so extensively that, given the proper bullet shape, they work almost as fast for me at half the size and cost, I got the HKS used from gunshows and law enfocement sales, 3 for $5. Got a whole cigar box full of them in the shelf.

Years ago carried speed loaders that straddled my  duty belt..a lower profile approach than what was otherwise available back then.

Now pocket carry one(1) speedloader or use a speedstrip in a drop-down belt holder...no tin on my chest these days.
