Ok, so I'm looking for a Light weight carry revolver. Weight being one of the most important aspects. I carried an LCR for a long time, before the cylinder blew up, so I don't feel comfortable carrying another. I don't like internal locks, so most S&W's are out except for the stupidly expensive no-lock mp360.
I liked the feel of the Charter Arms Undercover Lite, but at 250 dollars, I'm wondering if this is a giant piece of crap. I have a couple of old Charter Arms, but I heard it's essentially a new company. |

I owned one CA .44 bulldog 20 some odd years ago and it had one rough action. It went back to the factory twice and was still a problem.
I traded it off years back. Pretty much every Charter I have come across was in the same boat, rough as a cobb with a poor trigger Not sure why they make both but there are some 642s around (maybe a year ago) comeing from the factory without the lock I am not a fan of the unnecessary lock but I can't say I have directly herd of any problems with them other than being hard to unlock on some guns. I am not sure if the problems are very rare or if just an internet legend. At any rate I personally have shot tens of thousands of rounds through several different S&W guns with the lock that never had a problem. I would trust some old beat half rusty S&W as a protection gun before I would spend a dime on a Charter Arms |
| I recently purchase a no lock 642 from budsgunshop.com not sure of they have them in stock now or not but if they don't check back in a week or so. When i went to order mine they were out of stock so i waited about 3 bus days and sure enough they had them in stock I paid 378.00 for it and it has been perfect. i would definitely pay the extra $100 or so for the SW over Charter, Taurus Rossi etc. can;t beat a J frame for fit and function as well as availability of grips, holsters, etc. |
