This is a Ruger Security Six.  It says "Made in the 200th Year of American Liberty," so it must be from 1976...which just happens to be the year of my birth.  I'm not a "revolver guy," but I found it easy to hit 8" plates at 25 yards.  It fits well in my hand and the trigger is very nice.  It has a little muzzle wear near the muzzle, but it is in great shape for 35 years old.  I paid $150 cash.

... now how did I get such a great deal?  Well, the seller was my brother, and he knew damn well it was worth more than that.  He's just a nice guy.

Thank your brother, nice find.  If he has another one, ask him if the brother from another mother can get one for $150

Very good score..you could easily sell it for $250 minimum..Maybe more to Ruger fanboy.

I'm definitely going to keep it / shoot it.  It's a nice change from the semiautos.

Nice score, It's also got a rear sight and most I've seen only have the grove in the barrel for a rear sight.

Nice! Something about that size of revolver just feels "right," be it S&W or Ruger.

Nice!  I bought my six inch in 1982 for $160!    First centerfire handgun I ever bought.  You will enjoy it.

The one with fixed sights is the Service Six, but the "groove" is in the frame. I paid US$140 for this.

nice pick. Just hope you never need replacement parts. i'm in the same boat with my security six. fortunetly these revolvers rarely wear out or have major mechanical failures.

OP:

Nice snag for a great price. If you are interested in some good wood factory grips for yours take a look here and see if they will work with yours. If it is a 151- or newer revolver, they will.

Here is what they look like on my Security-Six, and I believe they are on sale for about $10 right now.

Nice to see another Tyler fan on a Ruger.

The Tyler T-grips are the only way that I enjoy those service style grips, be it on a Ruger or S&W! For my old Service Six, it is hard to find grips, so I snatched up the Tyler' s in a trade for the Pachmayr's I had gotten along with the gun.

Your Speed Six is a nice shooting iron!

Thanks. I agree with you about service grips. I am keeping my eyes open for a dark set of Tyler's for my Model 18.

Tyler has re-opened and is actually delivering goods again. I am also contemplating to get a set for my S&W K-frames.
