Looking at the S&W website, I see that the 442, 442 no lock, and 642 are all priced the same, yet the 642 no lock is about $100 more. Also, they show another 642 that is about $20 more than the standard 642.

Ummmmm....

I'm more than a bit confused here.

I understand that the 442 is has a different cylinder material and black finish, but what else is going on here?

What are the S&W product numbers? That'll help ID what you're talking about, and what features are included...

Of those buy the 442 No Lock. I switched from the 642 Lock to a 442 No Lock. Finish is holding up better on 442 in pocket carry. 642 was flaking. + No Lock to worry about!

Perhaps some of the models you were looking at were from the Pro Series, which have stainless cylinders cut for moon clips. All of the Pro Series are no lock.

Saw that too when I wanted to buy a J frame recently. I think it is more the S&W site than reality. Bud's had the 642 and 642 no lock for the same amount.
