How did they do this type of finish & what is it called?

It's either a bead blasted finish or it's been hard chrome plated.

The frame looks aluminum...anodized
The barrel & cylinder are stainless...glass beaded

Maybe it just my bad eyes but it looks a awful lot like a stock 642

As for the revolver, it looks like a standard aluminum frame stainless barrel/cylinder to me. The striping is an artifact of the image (it's also in the background)

They look like the stock grips that came on my 642 "delux". Mine are laminated wood and do look and feel great.
