A friend of mine wants to trade me a Ruger Security Six he picked up in a trade. The thing is, this particlular wheel gun was engraved at the Colt factory (I guess the colt engravers will engrave any gun?). It was signed by George Spring (which after some poking around on the internet I found out is a colt master engraver). The engraving was done in the 70's and it is a class "a" engraving. Also the original owner's name was engraved under the grips (not sure if this takes away from value). It also has some quality mods done such as speed hammer and trigger job. Its a very nice revolver but I think my buddy is wanting too high a premium for the engraving. I would say a normal security six would be worth about $400-500, how much do you think the engraving really adds to the value of the gun?
I have never bought an engraved gun so if anybody has any clue I would really appreciate it, thanks! |
