Anybody have any experiences? I want a ridiculous wheelgun for the range, and this definitely fits within budget.

I've had a lot of exp with the 454 Raging Bull, all bad.

I ordered one in .44mag for a friend of mine. We went out behind the shop to shoot a few, and the cylinder locked up. Taurus sent Fed-Ex by with a box....it returned about 5 weeks later and worked fine, I think they replaced  the crane  assembly. It appeared to me maybe the yoke barrel was bent.
Some folks hate the Taurus. This is actually the only problem I've personally seen.

eta: It is a very good shooter. He took a nice buck at about 40 yards last season.

I have the .454, and have had absolutely no problems with it.   I've put about 2500 rounds thru it.....my Virginia Dragoon in .44 only made it to 1800rds, and the crane broke.

I've had two.  One in .44 Mag, the other in .454 Casull.  I still have the .454, but I traded the .44 for a barrel for my Desert Eagle.

The .44 Mag one never gave me a hint of trouble, I'm just more of an auto guy, my two Raging Bulls were identical looking, and I'm attracted to having guns that are "multicaliber."
The .454 Casull one has a very minor problem that I can probably fix without too much trouble.  With the hotter rounds, the primers crater around the firing pin such that the pin gets stuck.  A little wobbling of the cylinder will get it unstuck, though.  I figure I just need to get the firing pin out and give it a little work to make that stop.
All in all, though, I'd say go for it, if you're just looking for a fun gun and can handle the possibility of having to send it back to the factory until it comes back right.  Statistically speaking, the odds are on your favor that it'll be right from day one, but Taurus does have the highest ratio of faulty guns on the market.

Ouch ––––   To the OP, i guess i'd say  do you really wanna take a gamble on a gun with that kind of horsepower?     I know many, many people have good luck with their Taurus's ,  but i'd probably put my cash on a Model 29 Smith if its a range toy ,  or save up a few more shekels for the Smith X frame .460 (which also shoots .454 Casull and .45 Colt)

Heh, well its not like thats a one of a kind situation. Was it something like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vftq9hNpvBc

That one is only a .357. I could only imagine a 44mag. Before anyone says bad reload, do you think the barrel would of flown off the front of a Ruger or S&W?

My Dad had a Taurus revolver he never shot. I looked at it and noticed the cylinder to be loose in full lock up. I swing out the cylinder and there is lead on the cone from the test fire at the factory. Told him to sell it and get a used S&W. Went to the store and there was a 20yo S&W sitting in the case that was rock solid in full lock which he happily brought home. Every single Taurus I have handled that was brand new was looser than any new or used Ruger or S&W.
