I recently picked up a well worn Three Screw Single Six. It has the 9 1/2 inch barrel. The barrel has been drilled and taped for a scope. I would like to have the barrel shortened to 5.5 inches. I was thinking about having a local smith cut it down but that would leave the holes in the barrel. The Ruger web page lists a $80 fee for rebarreling and $130 for refinishing, but does not list a cost for the barrel. In trying to dig up a price on the net I have found several posts where people have sent pistols into to Ruger for work and gotten them back reblued and like new for ridicously low prices. What's the real soop on Ruger servicing pistols, do they follow the posted fee schedule or not.

Yep, they will not do a thing period to an old model single action without doing the conversion - whether you want them to or not it don't matter.
:( Damn lawyers...ain't nothing wrong with it if you load one, skip one, and load 4...even a monkey could do it - hell I imagine some have. Earl Quoted:
If you like having the half cock option, be careful sending the pistol to Ruger. I THINK that they will perform the safety update (transfer bar) to the revolver, even if you ask them not to. Brad |
| Well I found a good solution. I picked up a 6 1/2 inch barrel off another forum. I'm going to mount that one and set the 9 1/2 inch barrel to the side. The pistol can then be put back original at a latter time. Just wish they hadn't drilled into the stampings on the original barrel when they put a scope on it, damn shame. |

Brad They WILL do the Xfer bar mod, but they include the old parts when they return it, so you could reinstall them if you so desire... |
