| I have a LCP on order (picking up the 16th) and was wondering what everyone was using for ammo... what works well, what to avoid, etc. Thanks |

Any 380 you can find. It is like asking for hens teeth the guy at the counter just gets a glazed over look and says no. I know what you mean... I can get plenty at local gunshops for $21ish+ per box... I check two local Walmarts several times a week but their shelves are bare except for 22-250, 30-06, CCI .22lr and shotgun shells. |

I'm planning to test the WWB FMJ's in mine this week. |

Ammo that has proven unreliable in my LCP: CCI Blazer Brass 95Gn FMJ Federal American Eagle 95Gn FMJ I have a box of 50 Federal American Eagle 95Gn FMJ and so far out of 36 rounds I have not had an issue. I then went to the gun range and used their "clean fire" CCI Blazer and everyother shot required me to fix it... I had three fail-to-eject, multiple jams... it was horrible. I have good luck with Rem and Win, so as soon as I can get my hands on that I will - but in the meantime the American Eagle has been working well for me. |

Finally picked up a new Ruger LCP yesterday that had been on order since January. I took it to the range today. I only like to carry FMJ in a 380 caliber handgun, but I had some Federal Hydrashocks on hand so I thought I would run through a couple of mags to see how it fed.
I had three Hydrashock rounds fail to feed out of two mags fired. The second round in the magazine failed to feed both times. I looked at one of the cartridges after it failed and the copper jacketing around the lip of the hollowpoint was ripped sightly by the LCPs feed ramp. I then tested two mags each of FMJ ammo in S&B, WWB, Fiocchi and PMC without a single failure. I am fortunate to have 380 ammo to test with that I acquired over the years. I feel sorry for all the new 380 pocket pistol owners who don't have sufficient ammo to test. I saw one guy in line at the range with a new Bersa 380 he had just purchased along with one box of 50 WWB FMJ ammo and one packet of expensive Hornady Critical Defense FTX hollowpoints for self defense use. With the shortage of 380 ammo, these folks are not going to be able to adequately test their new handguns. |
| After alot of research I'm carrying Corbon DPX in mine. 100% reliability in my gun. I did do the Keltec fluff and buff procedure to my LCP when i first got her. 1st range trip with American Eagle ball I had one fail to feed on the third round. I then shot 297 more rounds without a failure, and 50 DPX's without a failure. I feel confident in my LCP now (though I'm not exactly confident in the 380 round itself). |

Ruger should offer the LCP in 9X18 Makarov as well as .380 ACP.
At least you could actually fire it enough to test it properly. I'd order one tomorrow if it was offered in that chambering. Has anyone tried to contact Ruger to ask about this? I looked for a phone number for Ruger on their website but all they have are fax numbers. |

Tom, Mine doesnt like hydrashocks either. Rem UMC 95Gn Ball works great. Funny....mine ate up several mags full...would have shot more but I needed to have some to carry. Gander Mountain had some Remmington JHP 90's that looked sweet and fired just as nicely. Going back today to try and pick up more...try that is... Echo |

Joel Kramer - a tech at Ruger told me to avoid Federal in the LCP - they're too long. He recommended Black Hills (which I never see in my area); Winchester White Box FMJ and Hornday XTP in that order. Win White Box has been 100% reliable and extremely accurate in my LCP Woops meant to attach this to the post about Hydrashocks |
I only shot one mag out of my LCP when I went shooting, but that's because I had the full arsenal with other new toys to try too
I have ~150 rounds of WWB 95GR FMJ @ $24 a box... what a ripoff I keep checking my local WalMarts to see if they have any, but I haven't seen any .380 in stock since last year. |

for defense ammo, I've shot
Corbon DPX ... works great! Speer Gold Dot... Several feed issues Fiocchi Premium JHP...didn't even fit in the magazine right! Buffalo Bore JHPs.. fed/fired/ejected ok, but made my hand hurt and follow up shots took too long. Accuracy wasn't as good, likely due to muzzle rise (I'm an auto mechanic and have strong hands, but I think this ammo just makes the gun jump too much) Federal Hydrashock ... shot ok, 1 FTF in 50 rounds, accuracy ok. I just haven't tried this one again I have some Hornady Critical Defense I'm carrying right now, but due to the scarcity of .380 at the moment, I must confess I haven't tested this ammo yet. |
