A dealer had six LCP's and several Kel-Tec P32 and P3AT's. The LCP looked best, I got the one with the best trigger pull and a spare mag.
Two 6 + 1's with each mag using Monarch HP's shot perfectly. One 6 + 1 with each mag using American Eagle ball also shot perfectly. The Monarch HP's have a big flat front end, they look like they might not work but they sure do. The Monarch cases were then loaded with 105 gr SWC's cast from range lead in a Lee six cavity mold. The mold throws them at .358" and they were not resized. Lube was Lee Liquid Alox, the charge was 2.2 gr of Winchester 231. Seating was so that just a bit of the bullet shoulder showed in front of the case rim. Function was perfect with the reloads as it had been with factory ammo, but the cases were much easier to find. Observations: the LCP has a very high slide velocity with factory ammo, it throws the cases high and in unpredictable directions. It doesn't have a lot of recoil but what it has is sharp and there is little grip area to distribute it into the web of the hand. Slide velocity was lower for the light reloads, the gun was pleasant to shoot, the cases had much less hang time and landed at the 2 o'clock position about 5 feet away. The reloads are probably a lot easier on the gun. Grip angle is closer to a Makarov than say a Glock, it tends to shoot low until you get used to it. The trigger pull is much better after lubing with CLP. Using an Uncle Mike's size 1 pocket holster the LCP draws much, much faster than a S&W 442 does from it's Uncle Mike's pocket holster. The difference is like night and day, this is from Dockers pants. The LCP's thiner grip probably makes the difference. Note, the Kel-Tec's have an even thinner grip. Stopping Power: Two shots brought down a nice grasshopper, the first wounded him the second finished him off (remember, always take care of the wounded). He was about an inch long. Finally: the quality of the Ruger build and the genius of the Kel-Tec design jumps out at you from this gun, I am astonished at how good this little gun is. Even the magazines are smooth and easy to load. The fact that Ruger took a brilliant design and improved it some is just icing on the cake. |

Joel Kramer a Ruger tech in AZ told me they test the LCP with Black Hills and Hornady XTP.
Mine would not CHAMBER Federal American Eagle hardball. I had a batch with longer OAL than my LCP's tight chamber would tolerate My LCP was returned for functioning problems and since its return, has been 100% reliable for 250-300 rds of W-W White Box hardball, which Joel from Ruger specifically recommended for my LCP in the absence of Black Hills ammo in my area. Also, I had good results with Independence brand 90 gr FMJ |
