My friend has a problem with his P90DC where after every shot the mag will drop free. Is this the mag release, the release spring or something else? The magazines seem fit and are brand new.

Sounds like the spring is shot...no/not enough tension on the catch and the recoil is enough to move the catch, dropping the mag.
It still might feel like it has spring tension, but the spring may be broken.
