It seems pretty dumb to me to buy a MKIII then buy a paclite barrel on top of that. Is it possible to buy or build a lower then buy a paclite barrel and slap it together?

Not to often you see an actaul lower of a markIII for sale beens it is not the reciever most always are kept with their barrels. Once in a great while they come up for sale you would probably have better luck buying an older model used in a pawn shop if you can find one with a price you can live with then add your aftermarket parts you want  that is what I would do. been you don't need the upper you can lowball the price cause you only want the frame you may find a gem in the rough worn out beat up pistol that just needs new upper and refinished lower.

I've been thinking about getting a Volquartsen frame, and finding an upper to build on using their rail mount thingies. But the price is what's been keeping me back.

You can find a new Mk.III complete for $200-$300. It will be hard to build or find a lower for less than that. Also, you need the bolt assembly with the Pac-Lite upper so figure that into any cost calculations.

Strangely, for the Ruger Mk I, II and III, it is the barreled "upper receiver" that is considered to be the firearm by ATF. The lower can be bought or sold without the issue of it being a "firearm". I don't think a lot of people realize that when they place their upper for sale after swapping it out for a Pac-Lite.

I didn't really get to finish my first post due to being on my tablet and can't type as fast on it.

I've been thinking about getting the Volquartsen frame, their rail mount thing, and then get an upper threaded as short as possible and then of course a suppressor. Basically something like the Ruger model with rails on top and bottom, only shorter. And then some kind of optics, crimson trace grips, and a holster. I do realize this would come to a total of over a grand, but I think it'd be worth it... possibly?
