I am looking at swapping out my current carry gun (RIA Officers 1911 Tactical model) for something a bit lighter and more compact. I carried a full sized 1911, a Sig P225, and a Sig P228 for some time so I'm looking to supplement the SR9c with those.
What have people seen as far as reliability with the compact model? I have read about the trigger and safety(s) and am aware of those. I'm trying to decide between the Ruger, an M&P 9c, Kahr, etc. |

The SR9c is a great gun but I like the M&P9c a little better. Mostly because the M&P9c rubber grips seem to absorb a little more of the recoil allowing me to shoot a little faster with it than the SR9c. Using the standard compact mags, the M&P9c holds 12 rounds vs 10 for the Ruger. The M&P9c seems to be slightly smaller than the Ruger but in reality they are pretty close to the same size. The stock Ruger trigger is pretty darn nice right out of the box and for me is one of it's best features. The stock sights on the Ruger are too small for me but changing them to aftermarket night sights fixes that problem. The Ruger has a magazine disconnect. There are videos on the internet that tell you how to easily disable that, so that is easily remedied too.
I have shot the PM40 Kahr before. Not a big Kahr fan. They are expensive, can be finicky about ammo and the ammo capacity or grip is just not there. If you were considering a single stack, I would go with the S&W Shield or the Sig 290 before I would consider a Kahr. Just my two cents worth. |

The grips on my M&P9c are polymer, and are just as hard as the rest of the frame. |

Whatever the reason, I can shoot the M&P9c a little faster than the Ruger with almost no loss in accuracy. |
| I have over 1200 rounds through mine (3 months) and haven't had any issues with it. Accurate to 15 yards and comfortable. Wife liked it enough she wanted one of her own. EDC with no problems using 10 rd magazine, small print IWB. I think this would be a solid choice for anyone. |
| Love my SR9c it became my EDC the day I bought it. Picked up a IWB crossbreed holster and been carrying it ever since. I've had it for a while now with over 1000 rounds ran through it with no problems. Plus you gotta love a pistol that's considered a compact but holds 17+1 rds. |

Which crossbreed IWB model do you have? |

I EDC my Sr9C in a Crossbreed Supertuck Deluxe.
About 2000 rounds through mine of 115gr WWB, 115 and 124 gr American Eagle FMJ, and 124 gr Hornady Custom HPs. Not a single problem. Love this gun. IWB with the 10 round magazine (flat baseplate) with no printing. Carry an extra 17 round mag IWB on the support side and another if I'm wearing cargo pants/shorts. |

Kinda pricey at $50+ but just as comfortable as my Supertuck. Plus the horsehide really helps in the middle of these Texas summers. |
| My youngest son turned 21 today, and went out and bought a new black SR9C. He was deciding between the SR9C and a S&W MP9C. The Smith had a very nice grip and held 2 more rounds, but the Ruger had a better trigger and less felt recoil. We drove straight to the range and ran 100 flawless rounds thru it. He was grinning from ear to ear. He has a CCW class in 2 weeks and is excited to be able to use his own gun. |

| My SR9c has been flawless. I have a glock 26 that I have put thousands of rounds through it, but since I got the SR9c, the glock has more bench time. The trigger is the best advantage and the magazine disconnect can be easily removed. Also, I filed down the loaded chamber indicator so it isn't so obtrusive. The takedown isn't as simple as the glocks, but the internals are very "glock-like." I really enjoy it and would highly recommend it. |

Have had a lot of failures to fire with light primer strikes. Put a Galloway fireing pin spring in now in the testing process. No issues with mine! I put a hogue handall on it and it fits even better in my hand now. Just waiting to put some galloway parts in it then I'll edc it. |

Overall im happy with mine- ive carried it nearly every day for 2 years in a Kholster.
The only thing ive done to "improve" it is give the smooth portion of the grips a good light stipling. Not only does it look much better than the cheapy looking smooth plastic but it just feels better in the hand. Reliability *knock on wood* ive never had so much as a hiccup running UMC, Rem, even Wolf steel cased. The slide assembly feels a little overbuilt- giving it s rather top heavy feel compared to the wifes Kahr. Nothing wrong with that, just an observation. Ill echo the trigger. Virtually no take up and a smooth "glass rod" break. |
| I have one, and a SR9 full size. I haven't shot thousands of rounds, probably 300-500 each, but so far they've ran 100%. I just recently added Traction Grips to both of them, and now they feel even better in the hand. Awesome guns for a great price in my opinion. |
|
it's my EDC gun too. When I first got I ran 1200 rounds through it in two range trips. 100% with all kinds of ammo factory and handloads. My brother has the M&Pc. Ruger is easier to conceal, vastly better trigger (after it broke in a bit) and I'm very accurate with it. |

Im in the market for a new house/carry gun and considering picking up a full size SR9.
I have heard that with the trigger kit from Galloway Precision these things are pure awesome. To be honest the only reason I even looked at an SR9 is that currently virtually nothing else is available. My other choice, and this is based solely on what is available right now, is the CZ 75 P-07 Duty. Which would be the better buy? |
