The two I am referring to are:

Kimber Classic Stainless Target.

Kimber Stanless Target II.

Thanks.

The classic is an older series 1 model that does not have the swartz safety system.  The II in the name of the second gun means that the gun is a series 2 kimber and therefore contains the swartz safety system.  There are threads about the safety system if you need to read up on it.  Basically its a fireing pin block deactivated by the grip safety.  Some will argue that its a good safety feature that won't give you any problems, others will argue that its added parts that aren't needful and are only there because of politics (poli- many, tics- bloodsuckers).  You'll have to decide for yourself which you are after.  Personally I would choose a series 1 over a series 2, but that is just me so assign my opinion the value of what you paid for it.

It's my father's handgun and he was curious as to what the difference is.

He likes things plain and simple, he will be glad to know that the difference is one he will like.

Very solid answer, appreciate the help WolfiePacker.
