I'm going to get a Pro TLE/RL and was wondering if Kimber would add a small magwell. This is something that they can do for me?

They are easy and cheap to do yourself.  I did one on my Kimber Stainless Target II and I got a metal MSH over the plastic one it comes with.

Where are good places online to buy them?  I am interested as well.

MidwayUSA and Brownells.  I get all my 1911 parts from both of them.

Hey Mountainmalitia,

If you want it, I have a spare Kimber factory mainspring housing with detachable magwell.  This came off of a Kimber Tactical Custom II and was replaced as soon as I got it home with a Guncrafter mainspring housing with a retention loop.  I like to have the option of retention, and beveled the frame for a bigger magwell opening.  The Tac. Custom II is a defensive handgun so an oversize magwell is not necessary for me.  It has been used only during Kimber's test firing.

I stripped the finish off (bead blast) because I was going to install it on my wife's Colt, which is FDE, and was going to duracoat it to match.  I put it on a standard Custom II and her Colt for fit, and did not have any issues, so it should be drop-in to your TLE/RL and you are good to go.  There does not appear to be any material taken away during factory fitting, so there is a lot of room to work for your custom 1911 artist to bevel the magwell to match your frame.  It has been "quickie" blued to prevent corosion under duracoat, but would need a quick refinish with duracoat, gunkoat, krylon or a just darker bluing.  If I didn't strip the finish, it would have been a perfect match.

The spare part from Kimber is $80.  I'll part with it for $50 shipped. PM me if you want it.

Eric
