I am at the range and I put five rounds through my Kimber Ultra CDP II.  On the sixth round, I notice that rod inside the recoil spring is sticking out the front of the gun.  It turns out the rod had come unscrewed from the plate on the opposite end.

So, first, what would have happened if I pulled the trigger on the sixth round?   Would there have been a catostrophic failure with serious injury, or would the spring have still functioned (it seemed to still be in place, just without the rod).

Second, nothing seems to be broker, just unscrewed.  Do I reassemble and check it out, or is the fact that the two items came unscrewed mean there is a major problem.

FYI, I never disassembled my recoil spring assemply and did not know you could.  Is that something I should do as part of a regular cleaning.  And what happened appears to have just been an an involuntary disassembly.

Can you post pictures?

I cannot because I put the entire assembly back together.  And I do not know how to post pictures.

If someone tells me where to go to find the picture posting pictures, I could recreate it for all to see.

Clean it and use blue lock tight on threads&nut.

The clean and try some type of thread locking agent was my best guess for next step.  I intend to take the pistol to the SCG this week and try it out.  The gun really looks fine and it appears a part just came unscrewed.
