I recently bought a Ultra ten (the small one with the polimer frame) I had more problems with this gun than any I have ever owned It constantly jammed. I tried new magizines, about 20 different brands of ammo, it continued to jam with holow points and with FMJ. I sent it back to Kimber 2 times and it after a hundred or so rounds it became a jam-o-matic insted of an automatic. I thought that maby it was me maby I was limp wristing it so I had several people at the range shoot it. one guy even had the sam one I did. After 2 or 3 rounds it jammed (both failure to feed and extract). I even cleaned it to the point that I thought finish was going to be removed ( just kidding but I did clean the crap out of it). still jammed. I have not lost faith in Kimber my Girl frends father carries a Kimber and it works great I instantly fell in love with it. Unfortunately I cant remember wich one it was, but it was an ultra something or another. I am concidering buying a Tactical Ultra for carry (I currently carry a G23, I want a .45, the 30 is too thick and I dont like the feal of the 36 but than again my glock has 5000+ round through it and it only jammed once due to a faulty casing). What should I expect to pay for a Tactical and is there anything I should know befor purchasing? The only Kimber I have ever owned was my jam-O-matic. Sold it to someone that shot it and said he could fix it, I bought a glock. I have not lost faith in Kimber. I want to give it another go round. What is the magizine capacity on the ultra's? Thanks. |

Yours was not a common experience with the little Ultra 10...mine runs fine on anything I have fed it so far, as do those of two of by friends who have many more rounds through theirs than me. The reason i bought it, actually, was because I find the G30 too thick/wide and I simply do not like the feel of the 36. The various Kimber single column models come with 7rd. flush-fit mags. Get a couple of the Wilson mags made for them...much better quality mags than factory stuff. Very nice little guns, indeed. |

Actually, if restricted to only a single very small 1911 design, I would go for the single stack gun. I already have a LW Colt officers Model that has been a very good companion for many years. I wanted to try the higher capacity gun, but find myself not using it much, even though the extra ammo is comforting (I also have a 14rd. preban mag for a reload if needed)In addition, the slim single stack mags are easier to carry as well, especially with ISW holsters, mag pouches, etc. I can carry two 7 rounders easier than the one 14 rounder. The gun I DO have is much better than the one I do NOT have with me, and the guns I tend to have with me are smaller and lighter these days. I will take a bit of increased recoil any day to larger size for MY CCW needs...your mileage may vary. |
