At the beginning of 2013 I inherited my grandfathers Kimber Grand Raptor II 1911 .45ACP.
He passed away a day before new years day and I asked if I could keep his Kimber since it had some sentimental value to me. The day he purchased it, back in November of 2012, he called me up to see where I was because he had something to show me. I was at home cleaning my AR-15's...so he came on over to show me this Kimber 1911 that he just purchased. He was quite proud of his purchase and I closely inspected the beautiful craftsmanship that Kimber put into their pistols...
Of course he had to take a look at my AR's and we probably spent the better part of 30 to 45 minutes talking about guns...he loved his firearms...

It was the last real interaction I had with my grandfather before he passed away on December 31st, 2012.

I am proud of my grandfather in the fact that he served in the military and Law Enforcement. He was in the Navy during Vietnam and when he got out of the service he then served in the Army National Guard where he did firearms training....Later he got into Law Enforcement and retired as a state Constable.

He was a great man and he will be missed. This is the 1911 that I inherited from him pictured below...
No it is not an old relic but it is something that he loved and it reminds me of that one day we had...

Without further due...here it is...

I have long disliked Mimber 1911s, and I don't intend to change my opinion. However, the Micro 9 interested me enough to consider giving it a go, given that I wasn't interested in most other micro 9mm options.

Pulled my Classic Custom series 1 out of mothballs at the beginning of the year as I got a bug in my butt to shoot the USPSA Singlestack Nationals.  Slapped a bigger mag well on it, and a set of Techwell Posi-tec grips on it and off to the races.  Could use a new barrel as the rifling looks rounded and the throat is worn quite a bit and it rattles like crazy, but it runs.  Grips may be ugly, but they fit my hand better than standard grips.

I just bought this Micro 9. I've been wanting a Kimber for years and finally went for it.  337 rounds so far and no failures of any kind.

My one and only (for now) Kimber.

I chose a TLE 5” because I felt that the TLE package was the best intersection of price and features. No fluff, just good enhancements from the base Custom II.

I chose 5” because I wanted the best reliability, and stainless because I figured it would be more corrosion resistant than the wear-prone black oxide.
