| I have a chance to purchase a Kimber SIS with the rail for $975. Store claims that it is a consignment piece with 200 rounds through it. Owner has moved on to higher end Wilsons and Ed Brown. Is this a good price? It looks brand spanking new. I almost got an erection just handling it. |
| The finish was impressive, the grips felt really good, and to my surprise, the flat top was most attractive. The finish felt slippery, but I had no problem retracting the slide, which felt super smooth. Also the special night sights look good and no doubt are very functional. I just felt like it was quality piece, with no sharp corners. |
| The large stocking gun shop near here has a ton of the SIS Customs without the rail. They are having a difficult time selling them. Seems many don't care for the piece because of the SIS serrations or something. They have them on sale for 1049. A lot of SIS Kimber hate. |

That is a good deal I think. I bought a SIS Custom/RL (Paid $1150 new) The SIS serations and the finish arent that bad. I have shot it in the rain, mud, with and without gloves and hadn't noticed any issues pertaining to that. Just some feed issues. That was fixed with a call to Kimber they sent me a new Slide catch. PS if you get it throw out the Kimber mags they are JUNK. |
I thought the SIS came with the Premium Kimber magazine? |
It comes with one mag. I was not impressed with it at all. Even after the slide catch swap out the Kimber mag still had feed failures. I have 2 Wilson Combat and 2 Chip McCormick mags which I think performed much better in it with no failures. |

A 5" Kimber w/rail was featured on American Rifleman last night on TV. They gave it high marks for reliability, etc. Well Kimber is a big sponsor for the show along with Smith & Wesson. Pretty sure I have never seen a bad review on a gun from either manufacturer. |

Does the SIS have the firing pin block? Nope Taken from another 1911 discussion: From June 2008 Guns magazine. Excerpt of SIS article by Massad Ayoob "Law Interferes An internal firing pin lock was not initially part of the spec sheet, either, until bureaucracy got in the way. Los Angeles is, of course, part and parcel of a place often called by its own residents the PRK, or People's Republic of Kalifornia. Part of the state's Draconian collection of gun laws now requires passive firing pin locks on semiauto pistols acquired privately as opposed to governmental purchase. The Los Angeles city government wasn't buying these guns for SIS, though the Department had OK'd them as privately owned, department-approved guns for duty use by Section members. The operative term here was "privately owned." This meant the guns would need Kimber's Series II treatment, a resurrection of the Swartz-type firing pin safety of the 1930s working off the grip safety. Guns sold to the public in the SIS series will have the original sight developed for the Section, and will come without the passive firing pin safety." I have also read that some California civilian sold SIS pistols have the firing pin safety though that could be incorrect. |

With the normal serations it look pretty much like all the other 45's to some degree. With the SIS there is certianly no other on the market that you will mistake for the KIMBER. |
