I was looking at some of these on Gunbroker. How come some of them have external extractors and some have internal? Did they used to make them one way and then changed them to the other? Also, a second part to this post...I understand the "looks" difference but what is the real difference between the two types? Why do so many people prefer the internal extractor? |
| Kimber stopped using the external extractor in every model other than the Stainless TLE and Team Match a few months back. They had a lot of problems with the EE especially in the shorter guns. They have replaced many slides to internal extractors due to external extractor problems. I had a EE Eclipse and it was a hunk of crap. I wouldn't touch the external extractor with a ten foot pole. |
Hey! So do I, but I LOVE mine!  And it loves Wolf!Two of my Kimbers are EE with NO PROBLEMS, and the one IE also has NO PROBLEMS. So I guess Kimbers a just good guns, huh?  Travis

| I just got mine back from Kimber for the second time. They changed everything except the slide on the upper half the first. I shot it and knew I had problems - still. Sent it back to them and they changed the slide. The new slide has an internal extractor. The advantage of an internal extractor is that it is adjustable where the external is not. Internals are supposed to be more reliable. We'll see. Good luck. |
What (specifically) was your gun doing that caused you to send it to Kimber and caused Kimber to replace the slide? |
 I've only had problems with mine when I get it real hot, usually FTE but during a fun match or at the range with more than one gun, if it has a chance to cool down it runs just fine. However I really have to hold it like I mean it or I do have problems with FTF or the occasional stovepipe. I can control all of these problems and have complete confidence in it as a cary gun but some of my friends cant shoot it effectively and don't like it.
