I bought a used kimber 6 shot compact. it has a ramped barrel and a full length guide rod. i see no way to get the rod or barrel out. it won,t lift enough to clear the link. the bushing has nothing on it to remove it either.i don,t want to do anything stupid and damage the weapon. Any help would be nice.

Disassembly of the Kimber Compact is a bit backwards. Lock the slide out of battery and take a look at the guide rod. There will be a small hole drilled through the rod about 1/8" from where the end of the slide is when the gun is out of battery. Take a paper clip bent into an "L" shape and put it through the hole in the guide rod. Now ease the slide forward until the paper clip captures the recoil assembly. Now line up the slide stop with the disassembly notch on the slide and remove the slide stop. The slide should now come off the frame. Remove the recoil assembly from the rear of the slide and the barrel from the front and the gun should be field stripped and ready to clean.

Thank u mr Johnson . I was stumped  and i,ve carried a 45 sense feb 22 1965. USMC tanker. thats a strange way to take a 1911 down. by the way 911 is just a 1911 with an extra 1.
thanks again ammo1015, call sign              ( lease breaker )

Unfortunately, the book that came with my Ultra CDP II is horribly written.  Kimber's technical writer should be strung up by his toes.  I had to come here as well to get some take-down help, ao don't feel bad!

Also, don't put the takedown tool into the hole on the side pointing to the dust cover. I discovered that it makes it dificult to get it back out as the tool won't clear the dustcover.
