I was cleaning my Series 2 the other day and noticed that the front sight can be moved back and forth by finger pressure. The pistol has given exellent service up to this point, how do I fix this? Thanks! mrf2 |

Contact Kimber and advise them of the problem. They should issue a call tag for the slide and repair it at no charge to you. Even if you have to pay to send it since it's only the slide that would need to be sent the out of pocket expense is minimal. Other option is to have a "Good" gunsmith fix it but you know you'll pay for that repair job for sure. Go with the warranty option. RC |

Good advice above. Most Kimbers have phenominally tight sight to dovetail fits. In fact, they are notorious for this. If you have a loose one, chances are it's an overcut dovetail. Either the sight was made out of spec, and it's undersized, or the slide dovetail was cut too large, which is the case 99% of the time with this particular problem. Their are four fixes for an oversize dovetail. One is a jury rigged method, where a smith will punch divots in the dovetail track, causing burrs, which will add pressure to the sight. Adding loctite or Black Max helps. Method number two is to drill a hole, either through the sights base, or through the blade, and secure it with a set screw or a roll pin. Method three is to stake the sight in place. Method four is to reweld the sight cut, grind the slide down to the correct profile, recut the dovetail, and re-finish the slide. Method four is extremely expansive, and the other methods have mixed results. The first three can result in the sight coming loose again, and 2 and 3 tend to be ugly. If you send it to Kimber, and it turns out the slide cut is too large, more than likely they will just replace the whole slide. If cosmetics are not an issue to you, just stake it in place. |
