| I have a Kimber Ultr CDP II. I have used the factory magazine and Chip McCormick Shooting Starmagazines and never had a problem feeding ball ammo. I have fired around 300 rounds through the pistol. I recently purchased a box of hollow points and found the first round would not feed from a full magazine. Has anyone had a similar problem and if so what corrected the issue? |

I'll make the suggestion of trying out Wilson mags. They solve a lot of feeding problems simply enough. Also, the polymer follower on the Wilson mags will not harm your CDP; the steel follower on the CMC Shooting Stars will mar the aluminum frame of your gun. I'd also suggest running another 200 rounds of FMJ through it to get it good and broken in. With good Wilson mags and a broken in gun, your CDP should eat up pretty much anything. Perhaps there are ammo issues with the Ultra size others here can help with, my Kimber is fullsize, so no dimensional compromises have had to be made from the original 1911 design. |

The Kimber manual clearly states to use 230gr FMJ ball type for the first 500 rounds to avoid jams... This is called the break in period. I would recommend 200/300 more rounds of Winchester whitebox before you try the hollowpoints. Also, I usually wipe that little feedramp area down with a silicone cloth when I clean my Kimber. Also, I suspect that since you didn't read about the break-in period, you didn't read about cleanign the gun every 100 rounds for the first 500 rounds of the gun's life. Don't start a great firearm off on the wrong foot, follow the break-in instructions. The manual also recommends that you only use FMJ rounds. Screw $40 Wilson mags, your default Kimber mags will work just fine, if you use proper ammo and observe proper cleaning practices. -flip |
