Hi, I am wondering what are the differences between IWI and IMI? I have a Desert Eagle .50 AE pistol, and I'm beginning to think it's... weird. First off, it says it's made by Israel Weapon Industries (IWI). From my understanding, in the 80s Magnum Research contracted with IWI to make Desert Eagle pistols. So I'm wondering why my model says Israel Weapon Industries (IWI), instead of Israel Military Industries (IMI) like everyone else's Desert Eagles? Sorry if I sound like a total idiot. I'll post some pictures if needed. |

The first pistol where made by IMI in Israel, then Magnum research contracted with Sarco to make them here in the states. When Sarco was making the pistols here in the states for them, the casting/pistols where not as nice as when IMI was making them, so they have the pistol made back there now after pulling the contract with Sarco. If you haven’t figured it out yet, Magnum research is an importer/Seller, and not a producer of the firearms. |

I think He's asking why some are IMI (like mine) while newer ones say IWI. I just assumed the company changed it's name. Ah, some simple googling finds that IWI was formerly the Small arms division of IMI. It is now it's own separate company. Hence, old DEs were made by IMI, new ones are made by IWI, but it's basically the same company as far as I can tell. |
