I have been researching the P30 a lot lately, and have found that in many instances, guns billed as "lightly used" or "new" have a troubling amount of wear on the slide and controls (particularly the slide release).  What is the deal with this?

My slide release, brand new out of the box, showed a lot of "brass coloring" which looked like it had a lot of wear on it but it wasn't.  Maybe that's what you're seeing?  The wear on the slide I dunno.  I've only holstered my P30L a few times.  It has shown minor lightening around the edges near the muzzle, but nothing significant.

Exactly the same here.. OK, more like "copper coloring", but otherwise same..

Yes the copper coloration occurs on the slide release and extractor. It's just how the surface finish wears (probably something to do with the material those two components are made from coupled with the particular "Hostil Environment" finish). It does not affect function or durability - nothing to see here, if you're worried about looks that much, then move on ... otherwise get one already ... this pistol is the cat's meow no doubt.

My P30 and HK45 both have some of the black wearing off the slide releases.  It will not adversely affect anything at all.  The right side slide release rattle, on the P30 is something I wish they would address though.  It is the only minor blemish on a otherwise perfect gun.
