Can anyone tell me what the real differences are between an older late 90's USP vs the newer production models?

I'm looking for a used USP and would like to considered used as an option.
Please offer opinions

None of any consequence.
2000 Add locking feature to hammer strut support:
Reason: attempt to pacify safety Nazis

2000-2003  Some time during this range the firing pin was beefed up due to reports of breakage after extensive dry firing without snap caps.  Only the firing pin was altered.

2001  Converted captive recoil spring retainer from c-clip to
Machined end on Compacts.
Reason?   C-clip prone to breakage on the Compacts.

2004  In 2004 (AE) there was a redesign of the hammer stop.  The older style hammer stop hits the hammer face while the newer style, started in 04, has a longer hammer stop where the stop runs into a slot machined along the right side of the hammer, right above the hammer pivot pin.
Reason. ??

There are other even more insignificant changes such as lettering on slide and grip that have occurred over the last few years and the addition of the JS logo on the slide but these mean nothing in regards to the gun's functioning.

At some point they changed the "checkering" molded into the grip to a less sharp pattern.  Early ones are rather aggressive.

VERY early USP 9s and IIRC 40s had non-captive recoil springs and lands-and-grooves rifled barrels.  They also had a slightly different trigger mechanism.

At some point they started black finishing the tops of the locking blocks, earlier ones of all calibers had silver colored tops.
