100% safe.  As safe as carrying a revolver.  As safe as carrying a Glock (maybe even safer with the heavy DA pull of the USP).

I'd be okay with it. But I'm used to taking it off safety already when I draw since that's how I've trained myself. Also, IMO, when the SHTF you will NOT notice the DA pull. I don't notice the DA pull when I'm shooting IDPA!!!!!

There are three totally safe ways to carry the USP V1.
Hammer cocked, safety on.
Hammer down, safety on.
Hammer down, safety off.

You are good to go.

I have the same problem with my thumb. I carry a V1 decocked with the safety off every day. The only time I'll engage the safety is when it leaves the holster at home.

I like to carry both Cocked & Locked and Decocked & Unlocked.

I switch carrying between my HK USPc .40 and my Glock 23.  I carry DA no safety so if I need to shoot I won't forget to flip the safety off.
