I am new to HK are there any modifications that can be done to make the mag release bigger at least on the thumb side?

In short, no.  I think full size USP pistols in the earlier years had slightly larger mag release levers, and I believe they are interchangeable with a USPc.  But you'll have a hard time finding one of them.

But most people can't use the HK mag release with their thumb.  It's better to use your middle finger or trigger finger.

For me, once I started using the mag release that way, I think button releases are crap.  Don't give up on it.

I love the HK (and walther) mag releases. U use your trigger finger to activate it. Works great!

I agree! Use your trigger finger to release the mag. Once you are used to that you'll start to wonder why no one else has a mag release like HK!

I use my index finger.

2/3 of my guns have this trype of release (including my Walthers). I love it much more than the button type. U just gotta get used to it.

Thanks for the input everyone, I know that the index finger is the prefered way but I just did not like repositioning my hand on reloads.............it would be easier for me if I could reload without changing my grip.
I guess I was just looking for an easy way to change it, if there isn't than I will practice with what I have.

Thanks,
Dan

With a little practice, you can do a magazine change without changing your grip, just moving your trigger finger back and down in a smooth motion.

Yep - I do not adjust my grip when I use the trigger finger.

I actually have to alter my grip with the "button" type release

Weird, I feel quite the opposite, I always have to alter my grip to activate the thumb button type. Thats why I love my HK's, and the Walthers release, I can keep my sights on target while i changes mags.

+1. very very fast on target mag changes. Reminds me why I love the H&K the most. I have fumbled with the Glock and the 1911's and I don't like the fact that I have to "look" at them when I change mags.

+2 I love the HK release! I have small/medium hands so I have to sometimes shift my grip with button release.

This.  I find the traditional mag releases inferior after a while with my USP's release.
