I was about set on getting a USP Compact but then I heard about the HK45C. Has anyone handled both? Are there any reasons why I should pick the HK45C over the USP Compact? From what I can tell, the HK45C has adjustable backstraps and a under-barrel picatinny rail. But according to the size chart the HK45C is a bit longer at 7.2" vs 7.09" for the USPc45, and the USPc can mount a laser or surefire too even though it doesn't seem to have any picatinny slots, right?

FWIW, I'm looking for a compact gun for CCW that I can carry cocked & locked (manual saftey lever).

Any other HK models I should consider over the USP Compact? P2000?

Well, what caliber are you looking for?

USP compacts come in 9, 40, and 45 - the 45 is a little larger than the 9/40.

The HK45 only comes in 45.

The P2000 comes in 9/40.

The HK45 has a picatinny rail, the USP has the USP rail for which there are few choices in lights.  If you don't plan to use the rail the USP rail is much more streamlined.

If you're comparing a USPc in 45 to a HK45c, they are very similar pistols in size, shape and handling.

I have a HK USPc .45 and it is an awesome gun. It has made it to my everyday carry. I would like to shoot a P2000 as they are probably great too.

Either way you can't go wrong.

You forgot .357 SIG, an additional chambering for the USP compact.

I'm on the fence between either 9mm or .45 ACP. I understand .40 S&W's recoil is "snappy" and that the .45 might actually be more managable.

Are there many laser sight options available for the USPc's rail? I don't plan on mounting it while carrying obviously, but I'd like the option to be available.

If you're between a 9 and a 45 consider 8+1 rounds in the 45, or 13+1 in the 9.

I was about to bring up this point also, it is a bigger difference than in the full size USPs.  8+1 kinda sucks condsidering the size of the USP compact's grip.

8 + 1 is no different than a 1911.

I actually just got a USPc 45 about 2.5 weeks ago. I looked at the Hk45, but actually, I preferred the grip on the USPc better. The finger grooves on the HK45C make the grip feel thicker in parts to me.

The recoil on the USPc 45 was much lesser than I expected. I had my left hand in a cast the 1st time I went to shoot it. So, I had to shoot it 1 handed. Lower recoil than I thought

I also have a USpc 9mm. Like the gun a lot.

I added Decal Grips (the rubber ones) to both my USPc's. Makes a big difference.
