Went to the range to fire my USP compact for the first time. And about 2/3 of the time I would load a new mag with the slide locked back, it would drop the slide forward on its own, just as if I had hit the slide release. What could be the cause of this? EDIT: ok, I just read in the manual that this happens when the mag is forcefully inserted. So I guess I'm curious as to why this design feature? |
The nature of autopistols. Lots of them do this. |

Google this thing and you'll find a lot of people debating whether this is a "feature" or not. Personally I don't like to slam it in there, because I don't want that one time it chambers a round that I'm not ready for and BAM! I think I'm just more paranoid than anything... I've found with my USPf .40 that I can still hit the mag in there with a reasonable amount of force to make sure the mag is seated and it won't release the slide. So a lot of force isn't neccesary, but its all about personal preference. |

Yep, one of the guys in my classat FLETC found out the hard way why you want to keep your finger indexed during magazine exchanges. It was an "oh shite" moment to say the least. Thankfully no-one was harmed it the making of this story. ka PS, shooting the USPc .40 with the LEM trigger. |
| The first time I read about this "feature" on the G19 I was like "my G19 has never done that". I took my gun and slammed a mag into it and sure enough the slide slid closed. I just never hammered the mags in that hard. I've never had my USPc.45 do that but I guess I'm not rough enough with it. |
