I just picked up a USP Compact in .40 S&W.  Kind of an impulse buy, but the price was right

Being new to the H&K pistol, does it hurt to dry fire it?

I know I can dry fire my Glock's till I am blue in the face

Go for it!  I've dry fired mine probably 10000 times already.  No issues.

The only guns which cannot be dry fired are rimfire-type.  All center fire guns can be dry fired safely.

i have  read and been told it is ok  to dry fire my USP .40 and i trust/ belive them but... she is my baybe and i run snap caps when i dryfire drill.  i bought some snap caps when i got my slightly used usp and it seems to have come with a factory snap cap in a sealed package (dont want to open it to see for sure). they way i look at it is $15 for snap caps on my $600 baby might as air on the side of caution

Tell that to the M&P owners who needed to get new striker assemblies from S&W.

Rimfires are the only ones you shouldn't dry fire.

I own an OD COMBAT COMPETITION in 40 S&W , and read that under no circumstances do you dry fire an HK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The way its designed it puts undue stress on the pin when dry fired and can cause damage.  Just FYI.

yeah I would have to ask about your sources also, in the manuals it is stated that it's ok to dry fire them, do I do it? nope snap caps $15 / USP $750 I'll use snap caps.
