sold my usp 45 f last year. felt too big and recoil felt abrupt and i consistently show low. for some reason i still want an hk. i have small hands but man i want the usp 45 tac so bad. is this dumb. should i just give it up already? will the loger barrel and better trigger make things better? if i don't get one i'll probably go for  an xd 45 tac or g21sf

well, i own both the USP45f and the Tac45f...

of the 2, the match trigger definitly is better--a lot better

h/w, everything else (grip size, trigger length, etc) are the same

the shooting low could be a common combination of the grip being too big and you anticipating recoil and therefore pushing downwards as the shot breaks

imo, i'd try the USP again just to see, BUT if you are to buy, i'd consider the XD or the G21SF (of the 3 though, the USP's trigger contour beats em hands down and the match trigger kills em all...)

try the .45CT. it's the tactical, just in a compact package.

The only thing the CT has in common with the Tactical is the threaded barrel.  The CT doeesn't have the match trigger and has just the standard USP sights.  I guess they do share similar price tags though!

There is a VERY noticable difference in recoil when shooting the Mark 23 vs the USP .45 if you want to go that route... not going to fit your hands worth damn though if you don't care for the USP.  Otherwise, as already stated... the Tactical and the USP share same frame and that little 3/4" difference in barrel length won't make a noticable difference.  The match trigger, however, will make [the trigger pull] it much more smooth action.

For what it's worth, IMO, the USP .45 has better recoil characteristics than either of the other two pistols you mentioned.  In fact, as far as .45s go, (other than the Mark 23 heh) it has the best recoil handling I've ever experienced.

is the compact 45 good for small hands? i've heard the frame is still fat but haven't picked one up in a long time and don't remember. not too many quality gunstores for about 25-30 miles from me.how is the recoil on the compact?

The compact .45 isn't fat, just a bit larger than than the 9/.40. Recoil is kinda odd, I feel less recoil from my compact .45 than from my fullsize .45 USP.
