Does anybody know what's the difference between a standard USP's barrel and the "lands-and grooves profile"-barrel of the German military model (P8)?
I want to buy a 9mm USP but I'm also considering the P8 just to have something differentAny information would be appreciated.

It's the same exact gun except the lands and grooves one can shoot lead. The safety is also different as instead of UP position for safety on, it would be down on the P8. Just opposite of what Americans are used to as on a 1911 gun.  HK USA also wont warranty the P8 by the way.

So it shoots jacketed rounds just as well as a USP? AND you can use lead bullets...Interesting.

Thats correct except HK probably will warranty the P8 in Europe, where you are...P8s are rare here, I had one for a few years as I carried one when I served with the Bundeswehr.

As production began in 1993, several improvements were made to the USP series as necessary.  In September, 1994, the recoil spring was made as part of a captive assembly, rather than loose at one end.

In November, 1994 the barrel was changed from conventional land and groove to polygonal bore profile.

Improved trigger pull introduced in the latter half of 1995.  Reduces stacking and pull weight in the DA mode, improved smoothness in DA and SA modes.
